We’ve been around for 230+ years and counting.
St. John’s has been an important part of this community for more than 230 years. The church began to meet in 1789 and built the church building in 1798. St. John’s still worships in that church building, which has undergone several expansions over the years, and received a lovely restoration about 10 years ago. Congregants live as close as down the street, elsewhere in Yonkers, in Tuckahoe, and Eastchester, in the River Towns, and as far as northern Westchester County and The Bronx.
St. John's was the first Episcopal church in Westchester County to have a freestanding altar, and the first to call a woman as rector.
The congregation has a reputation for friendliness, faithfulness, innovation and compassion. We think we’ll just keep building on that reputation. Our history is pretty cool – and we’d love you to help us with our next amazing chapter.
